Where’s Joy?

The past year and a half have been so different in comparison to our prior years. Constantly leaving our houses we are reminded of fear. Constantly wearing masks, constantly sanitising our hands, constantly being told to get vaccinated…

The question I so badly want to present to all of us is, Who is your God?

Who do you worship? If He is the God of the Bible, I want to ask you why has He become so small?

Is He not powerful enough to ordain life and death, Is He not powerful enough to keep you healthy? Is He not the God who heals the sick?

Who are you worshipping? Who is your Joy? when in the midst of chaos where do you find peace?

“For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there”

James 3:16

One thing I have seen so many times in the past few years was that no matter the struggles, worship is a place that pushes chaos out the door. This is the worship of the true God, Jesus Christ.

So are you going to church? Are you worshipping the right person?

To find true joy and joy that is placed not on things that are material but things that are heavenly treasures, we need to go back to the basics of the teachings of the Bible and be reminded of where does true joy come from.

  1. Joy is a fruit

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

– Galatians 5:22-23

Joy is one of the fruit of the Holy Spirit, to receive the fruit you need to be filled by the Spirit of God. Joy is what happens when the Holy Spirit indwells the believer (a true follower of Jesus Christ)

Those who have been born again are constantly carrying a seal from God, this seal is the Holy Spirit. This is an indication that one is truly redeemed and has received salvation.

“In him  you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.” – Ephesians 1:13-14

Ephesians 1:13-14
  1. True Joy is found in Jesus

The joy of the Lord is the gladness of heart that comes from knowing God, abiding in Christ, and being filled with the Holy Spirit. – gotquestions.org

Jesus turns our sorrow into Joy.

“Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament. But the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.”

John 16:20

Every single one of your desires or anything that brings you joy can only be fulfilled by Jesus Christ because you are literally wired and created for that very purpose.

So let’s ask ourselves some hard questions:

  1. Who is my god/idol?
  2. How do I change my earthly mindset to a heavenly mindset? (Romans 12:1-2)
  3. Am I willing to live a life free of bondage , free of lies?

This week I want you to truly dig into the word of truth because you do not want the lies of the enemy to overtake your mind, you need to take back control and self-control comes from being filled with the Holy Spirit. Go read your Bible and return back to true Joy.

You need it.
