Once a person is born again, they are a new creation and with this new identity, many of us do not really know what the next step should be…
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. ”Romans 12:2
The scripture is clear, we cannot look like the world, but we need to be transformed by the renewal of our minds. So how do we do this?
- SPEND TIME IN THE WORD
This might sound like the most obvious piece of information. However, it does not help that you read the word and then walk away and forget what it says. There is a verse in scripture that literally talks about a man who forgets his own reflection in context with this subject.
Spending time in the Word of God is truly studying it, memorising it and truly applying what you have learned every single day. The process of renewing is a process of change that takes place when one is led truly by the Holy Spirit and is truly seeking after God.
- WHO ARE YOUR FRIENDS?
“Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”– 1 Corinthians 15:33
Humans adapt to their environment and if your environment is all about drinking, drugs, partying and not about Jesus, you are conforming to the world.
God calls you to be transformed, he did not call you to fit and in and do what the rest of the crowd is doing. It is so easy to allow people to pressure you into drinking, into doing things you don’t want to do. Do not sit with people who keep you behind.
The only reason you should be sitting with those people is if you are truly helping them grow closer to God. You can only do this from a place of maturity. But to be mature in the faith and to be strong you need to be TRANSFORMED friend.
- BROWSER HISTORY
If I had to take your phone or your computer and check up the undeleted history of searches. Would any of them contribute to building the kingdom of God?
The things you watch, the things you listen to. Those things impact you more than you realise. If you are listening to a song like Ariana Grande – ‘god is a woman, before you know it, you will be singing those lyrics in the shower. How does that make our Father in heaven feel? Our mouths and lives are meant to bring forth glory and praise to Him, yet we decide to disobey Him.
“You shall have no other gods before me”– Exodus 20:3
We subconsciously absorb a lot of things and they become part of who we are slowly. Some things you cannot control, we can’t always stop exposure, however, there are some things we can make conscious decisions about and change that.
Renewing your mind and your life is so hard. But growth was never supposed to be easy. We all fail now and then again but it is not an excuse to stop trying. When you feel like you are drowning in sin. Get on your knees, open the Word of God, pray for forgiveness. No matter how bad you feel, do it.
Remember the enemy wants you to run away. He wants you to run away and make you feel like you are not worthy enough to approach the throne of God. Family, stop running away and start running toward Jesus.
Tomorrow is a great day to start spending some time in the word. Here are a few verses that I suggest you meditate upon regarding this subject. It is never too late to start over. I pray this will help you and steer you to a closer intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.
