A song for the brokenhearted
Matt Caddick and Luke Wareham, two worship leaders and songwriters based in the South West of England, have released a new song called Refuge.
On the 12th of March, the song was released by brothers Tim and Jonny Stephenson. In the UK Christian Music Charts, Luke’s debut EP ‘Whisper’ reached number 11 with the song Whisper voted no.1 in the Louder Than The Music 2020 awards.
In late 2020, he released two of his lockdown prayers as songs: ‘I will not fear‘ and ‘Glimpse‘.
Throughout Luke’s career, he has written songs that speak directly to the situations people face every day.
The song ‘Refuge’ is based on Psalm 34:18
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.– Psalm 34:18
Luke says that ‘the song is inspired by a journey of grief in his own and his fiancée’s life through the experience of losing loved ones to Covid 19 and terminal illness’.
In this song, he prays that the message of hope Jesus provides will speak into people’s lives and inspire them to hold onto the hope that Jesus offers.
Despite the fact that many of us hoped for a fresh new start in 2021, he says that we can walk on through this year knowing we are in the hands of a God who will never abandon us. In seeing us, Jesus weeps with us, longing to be near to us.
We hope that people will be drawn nearer to God and have greater faith in him as they listen and worship to this song.
Co-writer Matt says’ ‘we are really excited about this song, mainly the truth behind it that Jesus is our refuge, he is our rock, he is our hiding place.
This is a message many of us need to hold onto especially in the current times with all that we are facing. Struggles are next door, on the street, in the schools and in government but one fact remains “God is in Control’. No this does not mean He is the cause of Chaos, the enemy clearly is, however, God uses the chaos and uses it to benefit those who love Him.
When you feel alone and afraid it is important to remember that your hope is not in material things, it is not in things that vanish but it is in Christ alone who is our Refuge.
Let us remember that while listening to this success of a song that teaches us that very truth.
‘Refuge’ is available to stream and download on all music platforms and the brand new lyric video is on YouTube. The chords to the song are available to download via SongSelect.
