“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart because I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33

Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He was trying to prepare His disciples for the hardships that were coming for them. In a dark and fallen world, inner peace is only found in Jesus Christ. The disciples and us here today cannot rely on ourselves to survive the hardships we are faced with, the persecutions or the trials, The disciples, me and you need to depend on Jesus and all that He has taught while He was here on Earth.

“The Greek word translated ‘overcome’ means “to defeat to win a victory over, as in a contest or military conflict.” The word “world” is the created physical realm, the domain of existence here on earth, which is considered distinct from the heavenly or spiritual realm. “ – gotquestions.org

Jesus has overcome sorrow and death. Death is a reality for each and every one of us but because of Jesus it is now a victory for those who believe in Him.

“And the last enemy to be destroyed is death. For the Scriptures say, “God has put all things under his authority.”

1 Corinthians 15:26-27

“For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through faith. And who can win this battle against this world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.”

1 John 5:4-5

“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live. Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.”

John 11:25-26

Jesus has overcome sin and temptation. Every single one of us throughout our lives struggles with sin, but Jesus gives us victory. Before being born again, the Bible tells us how we were dead in disobedience, how we were just like the rest of the world pursuing our own fleshly desires (Ephesians 2:1-2,3).

“But God being rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead…. For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.”

Ephesians 2:4-6

Jesus has overcome anxiety and cares.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

John 14:27

We who believe in Him bring our anxieties to His feet in prayer and He comforts us with the help of His Holy Spirit, who is The Comforter (Philippians 4:6).

Jesus has overcome hatred and persecution.

“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you:’ A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also”

John 15:18-20

For so many Christians even in our modern times, they are faced with persecution because of their faithfulness to Jesus Christ. But with the hope that each and every one of us shares in Jesus that we have eternal life. We know He to follow Him is worth the sacrifice, because He laid down His life to make us new.

So many of us can testify to the truth the Bible says about being Born Again, our hearts are changed, we no longer crave the things of this world. So we stand with Him and the truth.

Jesus has overcome spiritual forces. Jesus won victory over Satan and all the supernatural powers of evil.

“He disarmed the rulers and the authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in Him.”

Colossians 2:15

As believers we take on the same victory when we put on the armour of God that is mentioned in Ephesians 6:10-18.

Jesus has truly set us free from evil. If you want to share in this victory. You need to repent of your sin, which means to truly be sorry for breaking God’s law, you need to seek His forgiveness and turn from a life that pursues sin and turn to a life that lives for Christ Jesus.

Trust in Him and in Him alone. He is very much alive, and He knows you. He loves you and He wants to set you free from the bondage of evil.
