“God does not need your good works, but your neighbour does”

“God does not need your good works, but your neighbour does”

Martin Luther

Misunderstanding the concept of faith and works comes from a deeper misunderstanding of how you have come to salvation.

The truth about you, me and every human on this planet is that we are all born sinners. Humanly depraved and this means that our very nature is corrupt. Our choices are affected by it, the way you and I think are affected by it. We are cursed, bad people who need a new nature.

So what does God think about this? Well, He has a plan, since the very first sin was committed on earth by Adam and Eve, He made a promise to them in Genesis 3.

“I will put enmity between you and the woman,  and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” – Genesis 3:15

Ephesians 2:8 says that we have been saved by grace through faith but not through works, so why does James say that faith without works is dead?

For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

James 2:14

Works should be the result of our faith. It is not the works that save. But it is proof that there is faith within any given person. Do you know anyone who has come to know Jesus and has been able to keep silent about it? Has walked past someone who is homeless? No.

True followers do works because it pleases God. Not because they get anything out of it. They do it out of love and out of a changed heart in their beings. There is no hiding their new identity.

And I will give you new heart, and new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. – Ezekiel 36:26

but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” – John 10: 26-30

Your salvation is not based on anything you do but what He has done, You will hear His voice and you will be made new and nothing can take that away from you just as He says in John10: 26-30

So go out there and be a good representative for Jesus Christ.

What do you think?
