Before we even get into this song let us define the word:

misfit

/ˈmɪsfɪt/

noun

  1. a person whose behaviour or attitude sets them apart from others in an uncomfortably conspicuous way.

As people in today’s society, it is so easy to allow what the world says to define you and to allow their daily echoes to determine the things you like, the way you live and the things you say. As Christians, we are not meant to be put inside a box with society’s little ribbon around it.

We need to be set apart and different. It all started with Jesus. The Jewish Sanhedrin, Pharisees, Sadducees and many people within the community lived by particular laws and standards that they themselves did not fully understand.

The coming of the Messiah was promised for many thousands of years in the very same writings and laws that they studied. But so many of them were shocked by Jesus’ appearance and by the things He said.

To the point where Jewish Authorities felt threatened and afraid that this man was going to cause chaos with their leaders ‘Rome’.

Jesus was not afraid to tell people who He really was and who sent Him. You see Jesus claimed to be the Son of God and that He has come to set the captives free.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,”

– Luke 4:16-18

Jesus was not just mumbling words, he was quoting something specific from the scrolls.

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound”

– Isaiah 61:1

Jesus told them He has the ability to forgive sins. The Pharisees immediately wanted Him out. The difference you make in the world needs to be the right difference. Anyone can upset authorities, anyone can be a misfit. But the best kind or the right kind, Is a Christian Misfit who changes the norm.

And behold, some people brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.” And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming.” But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?  For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’?  But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then said to the paralytic—“Rise, pick up your bed and go home.” And he rose and went home. When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.

Matthew 9:2-8

Jesus commanded all of his followers to make disciples of all nations, and he didn’t say to stop if they were Muslim, if they were Buddhist or if they were offended.

Jesus was fearless. He walked into the temple court and turned tables upside down because people or more specifically God’s people were breaking the law. Jesus got angry, but this anger was rooted in love to save His people.

This song is an inspiration to you lukewarm Christians, reading this in your office, in your bed, in your living room. If you aren’t out there preaching the gospel, I do not believe you are living out your purpose. All of us have been commanded to be different and to not be afraid.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

– Isaiah 40:10

Thank you to Dubem for this inspiration, I pray that many people will step out of their comfort zones and realise who they are in Jesus’ name.
