Defayo – SOTÉ (feat. Limoblaze & Tumise)

This is a line that stands out for me when listening to this masterpiece. SOTÉ is a track that does not deserve any less than 11/10. When listening to the beat itself, it is one that would move you to your feet to dance, but then comes the most powerful wording I have heard in a song thus far.

Why is it that powerful you ask? I can answer this with one of their lyrics:

“Cos I bring the word of God that brings light, The double-edged sword that’s piercing every heart”

Most of the lyrics in this song come directly out of scripture and it literally speaks to the truth of its power.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

– Hebrews 4:12

This song also presents a call to Christians. It is time to stop sitting around and start doing your job with the gifts God has given you. (Matthew 28:18-20)

Although life is tough as Christians we know that they hated Jesus first so we should not be surprised:

“Right from the day that You made me, It was destined these people would hate me, If they hated You, why won’t they hate me”

“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.”

John 15:18

As Christians, we are not meant to compromise the truth with lies in order to fit in with the world or to be loved by the world. We live to please Jesus. When the world says left, we view scripture and if it says we go right, we go right.

I realize that the word is the power,Not the delivery

So many of us think that we need to be these great experts to get people to hear the word of God. Remember it is not our sugarcoating that does the work, It is the word that does it regardless of the delivery, it is not limited. But remember, do not twist it. Let the words of God speak for itself.

Remember that this world is only temporary and there is something greater ahead. You don’t only live once, You live for Eternity (YLFE). Being Christian could attract enemies but it could also attract enemies to see the goodness of God.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”

Matthew 5:13-14

Salt slows decay in meat. I believe Jesus specifically mentioned this metaphor for the role His people would have someday because through the word of God that is carried through us, death is defeated, sin is defeated because we are pointing to the good news that Jesus has died on the cross and that if the world believes in Him and repents, turns from their sin, there is hope for the lost.

As Artistic, creative people we need to use our gifts to get the message of Jesus across. If we can just use our talents, forget the naysayers and step into the call God has placed on every single Christian, Nothing can stop the spread of this wildfire that burns inside all of us.

Remember we are here for a purpose. Everything we do, we need to do it for His Glory!

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Colossians 3:17

A massive THANK YOU to the writers, rappers and producers for this track. You are a blessing. Thank you for showing us what it means to use our gifts for Jesus.

“Declare his glory among the nations, his marvellous works among all the peoples!”

Psalm 96:3
